You'll find the circulating book collection shelved in the general stacks on the second, third, and fourth floors of the Library and arranged by call numbers according to the Library of Congress classification system, LC for short.
Here's a general break-down of call numbers by floor:
Exceptions to the rule: When searching SCHOLAR, you may find that some books have call numbers with special prefixes added to them such as "REF" or "JUV". These materials are shelved in special areas of the Library and many may be non-circulating. Find out more about where to find books with special prefixes.
Below is an outline of the one- and two-letter prefixes for the call numbers used for most materials in the Michael Schwartz Library. For more information about how the LC Classification system works, see Understanding Call Numbers. For a complete outline of the Library of Congress classification system, visit the LC Web site.
Although you can use this list to browse through the Library's collection by subject, which may seem like an easy way to find the books you need, you could be missing valuable resources. A more efficient use of your time would be to search in SCHOLAR, the Library's online catalog, first.
NOTE: The Michael Schwartz Library does have a large collection of law materials but the majority of law related items are located in the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law Library
