If you know how to get to East 22nd & Euclid Avenue, skip down to the next section. Remember that East 22nd Street is one-way going north in the blocks before and after the Euclid intersection. Also remember to stay in the center lanes of East 22nd, while passing through the Euclid intersection, as the left hand lanes must turn left.
To reach East 22nd & Euclid via the interstate highways:
From the south and west, come to the junction of I-90 east, I-71 north and I-77 north, cross the high-level interstate bridge across the river, heading towards Jacobs Field stadium, and exit at the East 22nd Street exit. Turn left at the top of the ramp and proceed a couple of major intersections, crossing Prospect, to Euclid Avenue. Trinity Cathedral is on your right.
From the north, coming in on the Shoreway (I-90 west), exit at Prospect Street. Turn right at the top of the ramp and proceed down Prospect a block to the light at East 22nd Street. Turn right again and the next light north is Euclid Avenue.
To reach East 22nd & Euclid via local streets:
From the west, come across the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge (Hope Memorial Bridge), proceed east on Carnegie to East 22nd Street and turn left. Go north on 22nd St. a few blocks to Euclid.
From downtown, come out Euclid Avenue to East 22nd Street. You may also take the #247 RTA bus for 50 cents. It is a loop bus that connects Public Square, the Municipal Parking lot and the CSU campus.
From the east, on Euclid, Prospect or Carnegie, drive west to East 22nd Street and turn right. Go up to Euclid.
From the east on Chester, Superior or St. Clair, come west to East 40th Street, turn left and go north to Euclid Avenue. Turn right and proceed to East 22nd Street.
From the south, find your way to one of the interstates or one of the major arterials mentioned above and follow the directions for them.
To reach Special Collections from the corner of Euclid and E. 22nd:
Going north from Euclid, East 22nd Street dips under the Cleveland State University campus plaza and then rises back to street level at Chester. At the bottom of the dip, on the left, is a Visitor Parking lot. There are also some parking meters along East 22nd St., just before the entrance to the lot. If you find a space there, come up to the plaza level, overhead. There are four sets of stairs up from the lower parking lot and there's an elevator in the lobby at the north end of the lot.
If you cannot find space there, AND HAVEN'T ENTERED THE LOT FROM 22ND ST. YET, continue driving north and move over to the far right-hand lane so you can turn right at the light at Chester. Turn right and drive east on Chester, crossing the I-90 underpass and turn right at the light at East 30th Street. Go south one block to Euclid and turn right again, so you're going west back towards campus and downtown. Cross the I-90 underpass again and on your left is another Visitor Parking lot, next to the campus bookstore. After parking, walk the few blocks west to East 22nd Street and come up to the plaza level.
IF YOU HAVE TURNED INTO THE LOT, you'll have to exit the lot on East 21st. That's one-way going north to Euclid, where you'll turn left and proceed out to Fenn Tower and the parking lot next to the CSU bookstore (on your right) from the other direction.
Your goal in all this is Rhodes Tower, the 19-story precast concrete tower that dominates the skyline in this section of town. From the plaza level, come into the lobby of Rhodes Tower and go all the way to the right-hand end of the lobby, were you will find the library behind a bank of glass doors. Come into the library, through the security devices, and the elevators will be to your left. Come up to the third floor and Special Collections will be behind the brown doors off the elevator lobby.
If you get lost, or have other questions, the telephone number for Special Collections is (216) 687-2449. You may dial simply 2449 from any campus phone.
