III, Sec. 1, the Powers section of the Proposed Bylaws approved by the Graduate Faculty, to provide a method whereby a graduate program could request an exception to the powers of graduate faculty members. 2/27/85 Approved FAC's recommendations: delete from Art. II, Sec. 1.b, "...who have been nominated by the chairperson of their department..."; Added statement at the end of Art. II., Sec. 1.c, addressing the issue of petitioning for graduate faculty status; and deleting the statement at the end of Art. Power a)Sec. 1: "Only "Only members of the Graduate Faculty may: 4)serve as a Graduate Program Director or as a member of a program graduate studies committee." as: A faculty member may not serve as the director of a graduate program or as the chair of a department graduate committee unless he/she is a Graduate Faculty member, and that membership for other graduate committees should consist of a majority of Graduate Faculty members. 12/08/03 GC determined that Dean Tumeo would ask the Provost to designate Nursing as an Education discipline and Psychology as a Science discipline. Dean to contact the C-M Dean and ask if the Law Graduate Faculty want GC representation. 4/28/04 Approved the extension of Graduate Faculty status based on medical leave of absence. Approved addition of Law Faculty as having representation on GC. Determined that representation is by area, not be college and all reference to college be removed. Modified requirements for Graduate faculty status and removal of the two-track system. 5/12/04 Added Sec. 8.4.7 Art.VII. Research Council formalizing Research Council membership, appointment process, and reporting procedures. Approved GC By-Law revisions; will be discussed again in the fall before going to the Graduate faculty for approval. 4/1/08 Approved By-Law revisions regarding electronic ballots and addition of maternity leave.
