Services for CSU Alumni, University Affiliates
& Visiting Scholars

Photo of AlumnaUpon application, extended services are available at no charge for CSU graduates, members of the CSU Alumni Association, visiting scholars, affiliated high school students, and other individuals with OhioLINK affiliation, with the following modifications. Affiliation will be verified.

  • CSU students may obtain extended services at no charge for two semesters beyond the last date they attended CSU. Internet access will be permitted up to 4 hours per day as long as it does not physically prevent Cleveland State University students, faculty, and staff from obtaining access to the computers.
  • Visiting scholars who have a letter of introduction from their home institution may obtain extended services including four (4) hours of Internet access per day as long as it does not physically prevent Cleveland State University students, faculty, and staff from obtaining access to the computers.
  • High school students, who are affiliated with CSU or who are selected for participation in a CSU program, may obtain extended services with the exception of OhioLINK borrowing privileges and ILL, upon completing approximately one-hour training session with the High School Liaison Librarian. Four (4) hours of Internet access per day will be allowed as long as it does not physically prevent Cleveland State University students, faculty, and staff from obtaining access to the computers.
  • Individuals affiliated with other OhioLINK institutions may apply for extended services, including four (4) hours of Internet access as long as it does not physically prevent Cleveland State University students, faculty, and staff from obtaining access to the computers.

Temporary additional computer access time may be available upon petition to the Library Director.

EXTENDED SERVICES

The following extended services are available to qualifying alumni, visiting scholars, and university affiliates:

  • You may borrow a maximum of five items upon payment of the application fee. Upon receipt of the permanent borrower’s card, you may check out additional materials, but at no time can you have more than fifteen (15) items checked out.
  • You may check out items from the general collection for three weeks and can renew items from the general collection three times, by phone or in person.
  • You have Interlibrary Loan borrowing privileges with the following restrictions:
    • Photocopies are limited to ten (10) copies per month
    • You must pay all expenses involved in obtaining items.
  • You may use the Library’s general personal computers (PCs) to access Library resources, one hour per day, when such use does not physically prevent Cleveland State University students, faculty, and staff from obtaining access to the computers. Temporary additional computer access time may be available upon petition to the Library Director.
  • You must use the Library’s general computers (PCs) for appropriate purposes, must, if asked to, close the PC and leave the library for violating library policy, and agrees that if s/he refuses to leave, s/he will be committing a trespass on University Library property.
  • You do not have off campus access to CSU licensed databases but may borrow up to 5 items through OhioLINK patron-initiated borrowing.

Applications

Applications are available on the first floor at the User Services desk. Applications will not be accepted within thirty minutes of Library closing time.

Two pieces of identification will be needed, including a driver’s license or identification card from the state of Ohio or a valid identification card from an OhioLINK institution.

Renewal of Services

A community user card is good for one year and may be renewed on a yearly basis as long as the user is in good standing with Cleveland State University. Refusals to comply with this Policy or to follow the Conduct Rules for Library Use will result in the forfeiture of the user card. No refund will be provided.

Law Library Access

The Law Library honors the CSU Main Library Community Users card for occasional checkouts.
