Policy for Use of the Multimedia Center Computer Lab

Usage Policies

Multimedia Services is equipped with a small computer lab for use of CD-ROMs, Web sites with audio and video material, and other multimedia Internet and course material. A scanner is available for student use, see the scanner policy and procedures. There is currently no printing in the lab.

Use of the lab is limited to current students, faculty and staff. A valid Viking Card is required for admittance to the lab. To gain admittance to the lab, users must display a current CSU ID and sign in at the Multimedia Services Service Desk on the third floor of the Library. Students may use the equipment for one hour after they have signed in, but may use it longer if there is no one waiting for use of the lab.

Users may save files temporarily to the hard drive in C:\My Documents\Users, but files left over night may be deleted. Personal software should not be loaded on lab computers without prior authorization.

Library staff will do their best to assist users, but extended assistance cannot be guaranteed at all times. Users requiring further assistance can make an appointment with Jeff Beuck at (216) 687-7486.

No food or drink is permitted in the lab.

It is the responsibility of the user to ensure that all activity in the Multimedia Center Computer Lab complies with copyright laws.

Library Staff reserves the right to ask users who do not comply with these procedures to leave the lab.

Computers and Software

The lab is equipped with two PCs and a Mac. Each computer is supplied with speakers, but headphones are also available.

WS#1 is equipped with a DVD drive, CDROM recorder, scanner, and an Internet connection. Software includes Netscape Communicator and Photoshop Limited Edition. CD-ROMs may not be used on this machine.

WS#2 and the Mac are for use with CD-ROMs only. You may use your own CDROM or select from the Library's collection.

Multimedia Services Computer Lab Scanner Policy

The scanner is located in the Multimedia Services Computer Lab in the Library's 3rd Floor Multimedia Services. Use of the scanner is restricted to Cleveland State University faculty, students, and staff. All users must first make an appointment for an introductory meeting with Jeff Beuck (216 523-7486) before scanning privileges will be granted.

  • Scheduling
The scanner is normally available for use between the hours of 9AM and 4PM. An appointment should be made ahead of time whenever possible, as availability cannot be guaranteed otherwise. Appointment times will normally not exceed an hour, except with the specific approval of a supervisor. For an appointment call Jeff Beuck at (216) 523-7486.
  • Assistance
Limited assistance in scanning procedures is available. Library staff will help to train users who have little or no experience with scanners, but cannot actually do the scanning.
  • Copyright
It is the responsibility of the user to ensure that all work with the scanner complies with copyright laws.
