About Using the Library
- Can I use the Library?
- The Cleveland State University Library welcomes all users as long as they follow our rules of conduct. Your borrowing priveleges may be limited depending on what kind of borrower you are. See Borrowing Books for more information.
- Where is the Library located?
- The University Library is located on the first five floors of Rhodes Tower. Rhodes Tower is on the plaza between Euclid and Chester, and between East 21st and East 22nd streets. Entry is through the lobby of the Tower building on the Plaza level. See Directions, Parking & Map, Etc. for more information.
- When is the Library open?
- I'm in the Library and I'm lost. I need to find the "Fill in the Blank".
- Find where you need to go with our Floor Plans or use one of the many campus phones in the Library to call the User Services Center at X2479 or the Reference Center at x5300.
- Does the Library have computers that I can use to work on my assignment?
- The Library has 4 computer labs offering various services. If you own a laptop, laptop plug-ins are available in several places throughout the Library as week as wireless network access. See Computer Labs in the Library.
- How do I print from computers in the Library?
- Printing is available from all library computer stations; print jobs from library computer are sent to printing stations located within the library. Three printing stations are located on the first floor and one in the Multimedia Services area on the 3rd floor. Charges for printing are $.10 per black and white page and $.50 per color page. - How can I contact the Library?
- You can contact us by phone, fax, email or webform. See Contact Us for all the options.
- Can I arrange for a visit for my high school class?
- School teachers and school librarians/media specialists can arrange a visit to the Library for their classes. The visit can include a Library tour or library instruction. Find out more.
- I'm a student here. How can I get a job in the Library ?
- The Library is always looking for student assistants to perform a variety of duties in the Library from general office to computer and technology related work. Job openings wil be posted on our blog. If you are interested, simply complete and submit our online application. Employment opportunities in the Library for non-student help are posted on the Department of Human Relations website.

- My Professor/Instructor says I need to find a journal article. Where do I start?
- I need to find all kinds of information on a particular subject. Where's the best place to start?
- Try our Subject Portals for more focused research. Each portal pulls together subscription databases and OhioLINK resources, indexing services, full text e-journals, a list of current periodical subscriptions, and links to reputable web sites.
- I'm doing research from home. How to I get help connecting to the Research Databases?
- How do I find the books I need?
- Start by using the "Search the Scholar Catalog" box at the top of the page where you can search by Author, Title, Subject or Keyword. See Finding Books for more information.
- How can I get books this Library doesn't have?
- If your book doesn't appear in the SCHOLAR record, click on the "OhioLINK" button at the top of the page (see Finding Books) . If a record for your book doesn't appear in OhioLINK, you can borrow the book through our Interlibrary Loan Service.
- I need a really good quotation for my presentation. Where can I find stuff like that?
- Find quotations, dictionaries, encyclopedias, biographical sources, maps, statistics and much more at the Virtual Reference Desk. These web sites and electronic resources have been identified by our subject librarians as particularly useful for general reference use.
- My Professor/Instructor put something on Course Reserve that I need to read by next week. Where do I find it?
- I have a question about using the Research Databases, but the Library is closed. How do I get help?

- The Writing Center, located on the first floor in the Library in RT 105 and available to all members of the university community, can help you with any writing you may have to do.

Non-Library Questions
- How do I get a VikingCard?
- Go to the VikingCard Office located in UC272B and:
- Bring a Photo ID either a (State ID, Drivers License, Passport, Military or State ID)
- Students will need a current semester schedule; Faculty/Staff will need to bring their HR slip identifying them as a faculty/staff member
- Fill out an application
- Your VikingCard will be issued within a few minutes of the picture being taken

- How do I get to my classroom on the third floor of Rhodes Tower?
- You cannot get to classes on the third floor of Rhodes Tower from within the University Library. You actually need to enter through Rhodes Tower West to get to these classrooms. To get to Rhodes Tower West from the Library, exit the lobby through the revolving doors and turn right. Walk along the buildings on your right (Rhodes Tower and Rhodes Tower West are next to each other). Enter to your right through the last set of doors before the end of the building and look for the elevators that will take you to the third floor.
- Which elevators in Rhodes Tower take you where?
- The elevators located in the lobby of Rhodes Tower outside of the Library will take you to floors nine and above.The elevators within the Library will take you to floors one through eight. To get to third floor classrooms in Rhodes Tower, you need to use the elevators in Rhodes Tower West (see above).
